“Thomas likes all the colors because he can hear them and smell them and touch them and taste them.”

The Black Book of Colors is a monochrome book about discovering color. The pages are all black with small white text. Each page is about a different color. It describes what it feels like or sounds like and how it might change. On black paper in raised glossy, black ink, there is both the text in Braille and a line drawing that relates to the words. Children learn to feel a color in their mind and with their fingers. Instead of learning that colors have a name, the reader learns that colors are an idea that can be described in different languages. The book teaches empathy, imagination, and color through touch.
