Infinity is my six year old’s new favorite number. It makes his eyes pop out of his head and jaw drop. Taking him to “Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirrors,” a retrospective exhibition that includes six of Kusama’s infinity rooms, will be fun! Originally produced by the Hirschhorn Museum, the exhibition is touring North America (coming to Cleveland & Atlanta next).
Yayoi Kusama is having a well deserved moment in her career right now, and I am thrilled to see a solid children’s book accompany the wave. The recently published picture book, “Yayoi Kusama: From Here to Infinitiy!” is written by Sarah Suzuki and illustrated by Ellen Weinstein. It’s strength is in connecting her artwork to her everyday life, including her childhood and her career path. My favorite part is the illustrations of Kusama’s artwork, especially when they merge the artist, her motifs, and her world in one illustration. You can buy a copy on Amazon.
I’m looking forward to the exhibition and remembering when the idea of infinity could easily blow my mind! Below is a preview from SAM.
